VENUE SPOTLIGHT: Horton Grange Country House Hotel, Northumberland

Horton Grange Country House Hotel was the first venue I ever went to when I moved to the North East in 2004. I'd just arrived off a plane from Stockholm, Sweden, where I'd been living for eight years, and landed back on a Saturday in February. The very next day was my Gannie (Grandma-in-law)'s 90th birthday party and it was here, in this room. It was a very memorable day and I remember we had the whole venue to ourselves, for drinks in the lounge and then dinner served in the restaurant.

Seventeen years later, I'm still love this venue.

Horton Grange is a Grade II listed country house just north of Newcastle and not that far from Newcastle Airport. It's a country house than is hired out in its entirety for weddings and events. There are nine bedrooms in total, five in the main house and four in the converted stable block. It sits in four acres of grounds and if you prefer you can have a single tipi or a small marquee on the lawn. And if you are really lucky, you can have your wedding ceremony outside at the gazebo - if the weather holds out. The staff are very swift to move furniture outside if they think the weather will hold for you! Otherwise, the wedding will take place in the restaurant, then be turned around for dinner as your guests relax in the drawing room and lounges.

There are dark leather chairs available, but we think these light coloured ones work well with the dining set up, and we would recommend a pastel shade of bunting colour. We have pale pinks, pale blues, white, vintage florals, silver sequins and gold sequins, as well as our hessian and lace mix, all of which work really well. If you are going to have a tipi or a marquee, then really you could have any colour you want - I often think brighter colours work best - but it's up to you!

Horton Grange is a elegant and relaxed venue and we cannot wait to be back there decorating with our bunting. If you want to see our prices, we have a full page dedicated to Horton Grange, please go to www.emma-bunting.co.uk/horton-grange
